How to Make a Strong Introduction for a Literary Analysis Essay

Info

The introduction is the first thing your reader will observe in your book review, so you must write clearly and concise content. Literary analysis requires the author to carefully follow the theme, motif, character development or style element and evaluate its significance within the context of the book. Because textual analysis depends on the author's interpretation, it is necessary to convince the reader of your point of view. Writing a solid introduction to your essay will help to introduce your reader to your main points.

Step 1

Start writing an introduction after you have finished your book review story. This may seem absurd, but once you have completed the calculation and explanation of your main points, you will be better able to identify what they share equally, which you can present in the first paragraph of your essay. You can also start writing an introduction after you have completed your in-depth essay outline, where you set out your main points and organize your paper before you begin writing.

Step 2

Start your introduction with a grabber. In the case of textual analysis, an effective grabber can be a short excerpt from the text you are analyzing that covers part of your translation. Quote the quotation marks as the first sentence in the introduction paragraph. Your following sentence should introduce the speaker and the quotation's context and briefly explain how this statement relates to your analysis of the text.

Step 3

Keep the body of your introduction short. The paragraphs for a book review should be between eight and 12 sentences in length. In the introduction, write three to four sentences, in general, explaining your paper's title and why it is exciting and vital in the book you are reading. These three or four sentences will form a large part of your presentation section. Use these sentences to draw out the main points that you explain in detail in the body of your essay.

Step 4

Complete your presentation section with your thesis statement. The thesis statement clearly states the main point of your paper as a whole. It can be one sentence longer or two sentences long, but it should be the last part of the first paragraph. To get a five-point essay with three body parts, write one sentence that points to the main point of your paper. In the second sentence, called a blueprint, please point out the three main points of each body part and how they support your point of view. To find the most advanced literary texts, it is not always necessary to clearly state the main point of each body part as part of your vision statement. Focus instead of clearly and concisely on the power that drives the organization and development of your paper.
