How Can NRIs Get NABC During Pandemic?

Info

The spread of COVID-19 is not going to stop. Therefore, the Indian government has stopped the footfall or walk-ins for getting non-availability of birth certificate together with miscellaneous consular services for NRIs from India.

But, you don’t lose hopes.

You still have an option to get it from the Embassy of India. The postal mail/ shipping option is there as a silver lining.

Reasons To Get NABC

The NABC is an easy way to get the birth proof. This proof helps in getting original birth certificate from the competent authority in India, which is the Municipal Corporation.

This certificate is an evidence of the unregistered birth of those whose birth was not registered here. Another reasons associated with its issuance can be a loss of original birth certificate due to fire, flood, or any other one.

When NRIs apply for it, the embassy forwards their request to the competent authority in the location where they hail from. It also requires verification of the supporting documents. Besides, there are certain conditions associated with it, which are as below:

• The applicant must be Indian citizen or the ward of the Indian citizen.

• They should be born before 2nd June 1969.

• They should have an original Indian passport.

Once they live up to these all conditions, their application is sent to the competent authority. It initiates the procedure to find whether or not their birth was registered earlier. If it finds no such proof, the registrar of the Municipal Corporation grants this certificate. Or, you can consult with the Services2NRI to know about what to do then.

How NRIs can get it in lockdown?

As the services at Indian embassy have been suspended, the NRIs can apply for it online. Here is the roundup of what they should follow:

• Download the Miscellaneous Application form.

• Fill it up carefully.

• Affix the photograph of the applicant.

• Enclose the applicant’s current valid Indian passport and photocopies of the first five pages and last two pages. There should have photocopy of the documents, showing valid visa status. No originals are required.

• Applicant who has a non-Indian passport (like the son or daughter of the NRI) may provide his/her last Indian passport’s copies of the current passport as well as the old Indian passport.

• Enclose these original and photocopies of the proof of residence like driving license, utility bill, lease agreement, state identity card, or mortgage deed.

• Attach the photocopies of these documents with the application.

• Ensure that supporting documents are clearly readable.

• Send the application while enclosing a trackable pre-paid self-addressed return mailing envelope.

• Incomplete applications will be returned for being failed in providing the requisites to complete the application.

About Fee

The applicant has to pay the requisite fee per copy. There may have an additional fee, as in the USA where US$2.00 (Two Only) are charged towards Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) per application. If you want, the cash payment or money order or cashiers’ cheque may be submitted in favour of the embassy of India.

How long does the processing take?

Before COVID-19, it used to be delivered the same day when the application was submitted. But at present, this facility is temporarily out of service.

Therefore, the applicants may forward applications by postal mail. Its delivery may take ten working days from the date of receipt of mail at the Embassy, as it is a subject to submission of all requisite documents by applicants.

This procedure will remain effective till the time the embassy does not route any further update. In the meantime, the applicants can raise a request through a mail. Make sure that the supporting documents are notarized. Avoid sharing originals, as they may be damaged or lost.

Apart from that, the non-residents can request an authorized NRI services providing agent for the same purpose over the internet. This doing can help you in avoiding hassles and any complexity. For more details visit website.
